Singapore’s Trade & Industry Minister, Chan Chun Sing, shares his take on the country’s plans and hopes for international business, whilst dealing with the new challenges COVID-19 poses.

In a dialogue with several foreign business chambers and the Singapore Business Federation, Mr Chan Chun Sing reaffirmed his stance that the presence of global talent in Singapore is still very much necessary to maintain its status of a global hub and improve the local workforce.

Business travel resumption was also a big topic discussed, whereby Mr Chan assured that the Singaporean government would continue to push for even more border openings to more countries in accordance with health and safety concerns. The current pilot Business Travel Pass could be extended to more companies and employees and would ease operations for MNCs in Singapore.

More highlights to come would include further business re-openings to reach Phase 3 of Singapore’s reopening plan. Mr Chan, on behalf of the Singapore government has established that Singapore does not intend on exhibiting isolationism like many other countries have done and reiterated that it would be favourable for MNCs to adhere to local practices and uphold the Singapore core, to allow for smoother and more sustainable business operations in the long run.
