ALTIOS SUPPORTED TECHNIMA EXPANDING IN NORTH AMERICA

Technima is a family business focused on Excellence and Innovation. Its production sites and its commercial presence make it a leader in the European marking paint market, and a major manufacturer of decorative paints and technical aerosol products.

After many years of expansion and with a strong presence in five European countries, Technima’s board decided to take its growth further and explore new opportunities in North America.

As Technima was unfamiliar with the American market, it needed to surround itself with experts who could offer tailor-made support to ensure smooth and seamless development across the Atlantic.

During its expansion phase, Technima faced three major challenges:

  • A cultural challenge: it was necessary to overcome the cultural differences between Americans and Europeans, demonstrating a willingness to listen
  • a logistical challenge: Technima manufactures its products in Europe and therefore had to adapt to ensure optimal deployment
  • a reputation challenge: as Gunay Kucukoglu, CEO of Export, explains: “In Europe, we are the market leaders, but in America, and in Canada, we are unknown.”

ALTIOS supported Technima :

Expand from Canada…

In 2018, our experts supported the French company in setting up their subsidiary in Quebec.

“The creation of the subsidiary was rapid because all the necessary skills were well combined!”, Gunay Kucukoglu then shares with us.

For the past seven years, ALTIOS have been continuously managing the operations of this subsidiary, from domiciliation to accounting and payroll.

In 2022, Technima decided to recruit a VIE (International Volunteer), hosted by ALTIOS, in our Montreal office. This employee, who is in charge of sales administration, now has a local Canadian contract.

… to the United States!

Technima launched in the United States in 2023, with the continued support of our North American experts. Our teams enabled our client to establish their subsidiary with confidence.

ALTIOS is also responsible for the domiciliation and accounting of Technima’s American subsidiary. However, the French company manages its sales in the US from its Quebec subsidiary.

A strong presence that is already enabling Technima to succeed

Technima is now present in seven countries worldwide: a headquarters and production units in Europe, as well as local subsidiaries based in North America, and covers Europe as a whole.

The French company has already won a tender launched by Gaz Metro, the company responsible for gas distribution in Quebec. In competition with other companies in the sector, the products marketed by Technima won over the Quebec distributor.

Now, “throughout the province of Quebec, when you see a yellow ‘G’ with a double-headed arrow, you know it’s our products,” proudly explains Gunay Kucukoglu.

The Canadian subsidiary of the French aerosol paint company is already generating sales of CAD 5 million in 2024.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Start regional before going continental: Launch from a nearby market such as Canada to build experience and credibility before entering the U.S.

  • Empower local operations: Create a local subsidiary and manage HR, accounting, and administration on the ground to gain trust and agility.

  • Work with an experienced international partner: Rely on a trusted advisor to navigate cultural, legal, and logistical hurdles while you focus on growth.
