International Strategy

"Altios provides us with its proven methodology and international experience to help us seize real growth opportunities in promising markets."

Mathieu Jacquet

Export Director, Cafés Richard

In 2005, Cafés Richard established an Export Department, which today consists of six employees. The coffee roaster operates in 40 countries through a network of distributors, managed from its headquarters in Gennevilliers for Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States, from its Singapore office for Asia, and from Dubai for the Middle East and North Africa. The export business relies on recurring clients with diverse profiles.

To accelerate its growth in these markets and identify new drivers of growth that are difficult to achieve in France due to its leadership position, Cafés Richard turned to Altios.

Altios began with a thorough audit of Cafés Richard’s internal services and its entire international ecosystem, including the Export Department, logistics, production, marketing, and communication. Altios also gathered field feedback from regional offices.

Based on this analysis, Altios identified the need to clarify Cafés Richard’s vision and international strategy.

To address this, Altios supported Cafés Richard in defining its global strategy and helped prioritise high-potential markets. The Middle East and Europe were selected as priority regions due to their capacity to rebound after the health crisis.

Cafés Richard then worked with Altios to establish a roadmap aligned with its vision for international growth.

The roadmap is currently being implemented, focusing on:

  • Meetings with Bpifrance to secure international subsidies and mitigate risks.
  • Engaging with similar companies to create synergies and complementary product catalogues.
  • Developing specifications to define the ideal profile for Cafés Richard’s international distributors and clients.

Tips and Best Practices

  1. Prioritise markets to become an expert in targeted regions rather than pursuing a broad, holistic deployment strategy.
  2. Believe in your vision.
  3. Leverage the “Made in France” label, which has a strong reputation internationally.
