UK Trade Agency Partners with Altios to Grow US Exports

To increase exports to the U.S. and to encourage American businesses to invest in the U.K., the country’s Department of International Trade partnered with Altios to provide export and expansion services for its clients.
Summary
To better serve its clients and stimulate more trade with the U.S., the Department of International Trade in the U.K. partnered with Altios. Experienced in global business and expansion, Altios provides services ranging from distribution strategy to foreign investment, in addition to new services as required.
Background
The U.K.’s Department of International Trade (referred to as the DIT) is the country’s government agency that promotes inward and outward business development. The agency assists U.K. businesses in exportation and expansion in global markets while also promoting the region to outside investors and foreign companies. DIT’s comprehensive dual mission and a broad set of services are offered nationally by its 1,200 employees spread across offices throughout the U.K. and globally in more than 100 countries. The trade agency also relies on external firms to provide an enriched set of offerings to serve its clients better.
Challenge
The U.S. is an essential market for the DIT in both inward and outward investments and exports. Within the U.S., the agency has offices in the top nine cities throughout the country, complemented with its U.K.-based teams. To reach 100,000 new exports into the U.S. by 2020, the agency needed a partner with in-country teams knowledgable on the dynamics of the Amerian marketplace. Due to the vast size of the American market, DIT sought an external consultancy firm, which could offer complementary services to its clients.
Solution
The DIT’s client base has a broad set of needs, ranging from helping a U.K. company export into the U.S., all the way to assisting an American company in adapting to the British market. The agency selected Altios due to its expertise and knowledge in both markets, and its in-country teams. To complement DIT’s services, Altios provided a range of services to aid companies in both export and expansion. Services provided by Altios as part of the partnership include distribution strategy, product registration, franchising, foreign investment, administrative and accounting management, in addition to new services, as required.
Result

The partnership with Altios provides DIT with a flexible and open relationship on which to build its full offering of client services.

“The elements that make this partnership with Altios a winning one are based on trust, clear communication, transparency and mutual understanding,” said Sue Marsden Gilpin, Head of Trade Services at DIT’s office in New York.

As the trade agency is looking for on-the-ground support, Altios teams in both the U.S. and the U.K. can provide the knowledge and expertise required by its clients.

As Altios is already a partner of companies that are developing internationally, they know the market well and which steps to take
